| Topic: Life Safety vs. Building Security
Description: In buildings, there is frequently conflict between the Building Codes mandate to ensure occupant safety with free egress and an occupants prerogative to secure the premises from unauthorized entry. This session will examine Building Code provisions for the use of security hardware, including electric strikes and electromagnetic locks. A brief review of the Building Code development process, and the role of equivalents and performance-based codes will be included.
