Entries are judged by the Quality Documents Competition Committee (QDCC), whose members are current CSC members. Awards are determined based on point scores assigned to entries by evaluation teams under the direct supervision of the Committee. A general evaluation is provided to each entrant upon completion of judging. Individual entry scores are not disclosed and the decision of the Committee is final.

Scoring System: The QDCC judge entries in accordance with information found in CSC’s “Principles of Construction Documentation (PCD)” and “Certified Technical Representative (CTR) Level II Handbook”. The criteria for evaluation and scoring are as follows:

Preliminary Evaluation
The QDCC determines whether the entry merits further consideration for an award. Major deficiencies include:
• Omission of manufacturer's identification on binder spine and cover.
• Omission of guide specifications.
• Omission of use of CSC’s MasterFormat, SectionFormat 1997 and PageFormat 2000
SectionFormat™ and 2000 PageFormat™.
• Non-substantial binder or loose literature.
• Illegal use of copyrighted documents
 
Local Evaluations
Evaluation teams score entries based on the following:

Product Binder Concept
Does the binder comply with, provide, or have the information to:
• Evaluate the product(s)
• Select the product options
• Incorporate the product into the design
• Draw and detail the product
• Write a project specification
• Order, install, and maintain the product
• Comply with CSC’s MasterFormat, SectionFormat 1997 and PageFormat 2000
• Provide Table of Contents, indexing or tabs.
• Provide current information
• Provide contact identification

Guide Specifications - Does the binder have complete guide specifications written in accordance with CSC’s MasterFormat, SectionFormat 1997 and PageFormat 2000

Technical Content - Does the binder include the following items:
• Technical product information, including relevant reference standards
• Testing information
• Related information
• Samples, Data Sheets or equivalent

Presentation Techniques
• Is the binder substantial enough for filing and ease of use?
• Is the binder assembled for easy retrieval and updating of information?
• Is the MasterFormat Division or Section Number included on binder spine?
• Does the binder contain a Table of contents and proper indexing?
• What is the appearance and organization of the binder's components?
• Is there a date of publication for the binder, or are the product informational pages dated?
• Is company name, address, and phone number on product informational pages?

Text
• Is the method of preparation and writing adequate, including consistent editing and syntax, proper grammar and sentence structure, and correct spelling?
 

Final Evaluation
The QDCC meets a second time to review each entry again in light of the scores from the local evaluation teams, and determines the award recipients. The decision of the QDCC is final.
