Bluespirit Kennel is located in South Central Ontario. (For exact location, please see "Location" Page). At Bluespirit, we believe our treasured Australian Cattle Dogs (ACDs) should live in the best possible surroundings. That's why we have several runs, offering different attactions to the dogs. Dogs are rotated often between runs, and all dogs enjoy daily group exercise on the expansive property.

Boarding is occasionally available to our offspring only. Please contact us via Email.

The Maple Haven

Most runs are made with steel fencing. This one has particularly high walls and a sturdy old maple tree.

The huge tree offers welcome shade in summer, and the run is attached to the large horse barn. The dogs also like this site because it's in the center of the main yard, right where all the action is!

The Lion's Den

The main attraction of this large run is that it is circular, with great visibility outwards for a full 360 degrees. Super for a continuous jog around its perimeter.

Our busy dogs have cleverly dug at the root system of a knarly old Manitoba maple in its center, and created a comfortable dugout den for those comfy summer naps.

The Cucumber Patch

This run is also known as "the Chicken Coup", named for its chicken wire roof. Commonly used for stud dogs anxious to climb out during times when females are in heat, the entire run is now covered in wild cucumber.

Gus is pictured here being "cool as a cucumber" with his big tub of water, which he climbs into when the mood strikes him.

The Paddock

With its tiered levels, the Paddock offers several great vantage points to survey the grassy meadowlands to its south. This run is attached to the horse paddock, where all the dogs bed down for the night.

The run is quiet and secluded from the elements. In early spring and late autumn it captures scarce rays of sunlight, and the dogs can be seen basking in it, with contented half-closed eyes.

Our Kennel is a home to our dogs. And we believe that a good home is vital to the mental well being of our animals. We consider it a welcome resposibility as breeders to mentally stimulate the dogs each and every day. We regard this with primary importance for the dogs' healthy state of mind. Rather than being left in kennels day in and day out, our dogs are moved around, from inside kennels to outside runs, with lots to do in them. We obedience work them regularly.

Our dogs are taken with horses for beautiful hacks through our excellent trails of sandy rolling hills and bush, complete with streams, spring fed ponds, deer, rabbits, ground hogs and lots of envigorating fun filled miles. On occasion we have cattle, and work the dogs. We also haul them to horse events. And there's nothin' better than - takin' your heeler to a ropin', cuttin', pennin', barrel race rodeo ... and be "proud" of your dog.
Our indoor arena is wonderful for winter activities as agility, obedience and frisbee - what a great time they all have. Puppies have a special kennel that allows them to enjoy digging under old stumps and making great paths and dens or climb to the top. It helps them to grow mentally and physically. Also, I find that "a wheelbarrow full of puppies" helps them get over motion sickness. Daily crate training, grooming, and leash training helps the pups pre-adjust to going to their new homes.
