Tenaka's owner is Lisa Chaplin who drove over 800 miles to pick up her pup. Lisa is a championship sled dog racer and organizer of major races, including the Aspen Run Sled Dog Classic, held yearly in Wisconsin.

Following is a letter to Jackie Pickering from Tenaka:

Dear Grandma Jackie,

You wouldn't believe how busy it's been around here. There was hunting season (Lisa brought home 3 deer!) and the sled dogs have been in training. And me and Shadow were going for 3 mile walks in the woods every day, and then tons of snow to play in, and then my very first sled dog race! It was so great!! You wouldn't believe all the dogs and people that were there.

Man, my teams did great. Lisa was third in the 10-dog class (with just an 8-dog team) and fourth in the 6-dog class. I don't want to brag, but I gave the dogs a good talking to before the race, and it sure paid off.

I don't have any "show quality" photos because I'm more of an "outdoorsy" kind of guy. But I feel great and I'm all muscle. Me and Shadow work and play hard. We don't want to become fat and lazy like some other dogs do.

We've got a race every weekend in January. And then in February we're going to Colorado for a month, one race every weekend. It'll be great!

I'm never apart from Lisa for more than a couple of hours at a time. I sure love her. And there's always plenty to do. Why, I fall asleep before 10 pm every night, I'm so wore out.

I hope you're having half as much fun as I am. I promise to keep in touch.

Tenaka
