The Kennedy Reunion in 2009 will be my 5th reunion that I have attended. I have been on the past three reunion committees (1999, 2004 and 2009) and have assisted in the planning of each. All of the past reunions have been a very pleasant experience for me. I have seen over the years many former classmates and teachers as well as students that I have taught. I am looking forward to seeing many of you at our special 80th commemoration at Kennedy Collegiate in May 2009. I know that all Clippers like a good party and the reunion committee has been working very hard for over a year arranging events for this celebration. I encourage you to attend as I know you won't be disappointed. Go Clippers ! |

We have a wonderful new Principal at KCI, Al Timmins. He is dedicated to the school and it's history. He has overseen the "freshening-up" of the building; with cleaning, inside and out, new cement sidewalk out front; painting and organizing, has designated "a secure place in the basement for the 'Reunion Memorabilia and Archiving' for future Committee members; refurbished the "POOL"; the science room; and organization of hallway pictures. He is a breath of fresh air and the future for those of us who have a dedication to keep the Home of the 'Clippers' alive and well. People...look at this incredible building and location in our city. Eighty years young! Al has come forward and offered us his experience and support to Co-chair this upcoming Reunion. This is a first for a Principal. My opinion is: he is exactly what is needed to carry on the tradition and pride, in what is meant in our motto, 'Altiora Peto'

I enjoyed my years at Kennedy so much that I stayed and worked there for several years. Made great friendships that I still have today.
All through my working years with the Board (41) I continued to connect with former students who were employed as teachers or in other positions. Several of the ladies that attended Kennedy with me still meet once a month for dinner. I look forward to seeing former classmates and students that I knew over 50 years ago. Okay, I need to know why Kennedy boys swam in the nude during gym class? I attended Riverside too, and we swam nude there as well. But when I tell anyone else from Ontario or elsewhere around the country, they are horrified. Why was this 'freedom' only granted to Windsor male students? Curious minds want to know!
The last reunion was very special. Ran into the first girl with whom I ever had a date. 32 years later, I got my second date! We now live together in Toronto. See you at the Reunion!

I Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I will not be at the reunion...sadly I was diagnosed in November with, you will not believe it...brain cancer...a nasty tumour decided to park its carcasss inside the right part of my brain...but two brain surgeries later combined with chemo and radiation therapy will hopefully keep this in check....but, my humour and Tigger like attitude is keeping me going...too bad....so tell everyone at the reunion I wont be doing my Andy Kaufman routine for old times sake....

30 years ago I attended the 50th, and we had a golf tourny. I hope we have another one, I've been practicing since in preparation for such an event, heh heh! Was delighted to get the 80th reunion invite. I am chairman of a large show at the end of May and will be right in the thick of things during the month, giving me no time to get away.... we have this show annually so will need to plan ahead to go next year.... maybe!!

Reading the Football Fight Song lyrics brought back memories......credit to Barry Deaneau, Pat Eagen, "Knobby" Knowles, Betty Beauchamp and myself for that one!, written in my Dad's waiting room in my home on Giles Blvd (location is now a Rexall drug store) time does wrought us changes!!....many wonderful times at KCI and incredible teachers!! I just heard about the reunion date and definitely plan to be there. I am presently in Pharr, Texas at the Mexican Border, but wild horses couldn't keep me away. I've been to all Kennedy Reunions except the one 10 years ago because I got married that day. (My brothers were upset because they couldn't go to the reunion that year!) I'm still playing music (Sax player in Canada's Premeier Show Band, "Music Express") and will be playing Bari Sax with the Stage Band for the Saturday afternoon Assembly. The reunion 5 years ago was a blast, especially the Stardust Dance. Looking forward to seeing my classmates. Barbara Knectal, haven't seen you since high school. I look the same but maybe not as geeky and I still have hair, but it's all grey!

Well, here we are five and a half weeks till the Reunion.
As at the last two Reunions, we will again pay Tribute to those attending who are '80 plus' years old. We will honour them at the Opening Ceremonies. As well, Kenneth Jacobs and Ivy Benneian will cut the Opening Ceremony Ribbon to Officially start off our festivities. Last Reunion we had thirty two '80 plus' Alumni attend. We have some registered at present and hear more will be attending as well. This Reunion we are offering Free Registration to those over 80 Years Old. Anyone already registered and has paid will be reimbursed.
To celebrate our 80 year Anniversary of KCI we have also made arrangements to have a Vintage Car Display, by the Heritage Museum, (Arner Town Line) on Saturday afternoon at the front of the School. Also, thanks to an interest of Jack Maddocks (1956) we are making plans to have a SPORTS HALL OF FAME in our Athletic Hall leading to the gym. Pictures are courtesy of the 'Windsor /Essex County Sports Hall of Fame' with the help of Jerry Brumpton, Director.This display will include approximately two dozen Kennedy Atheletes from over the years; including Ernestine Russell. Musical entertainment for the weekend will include: Power & the Glory, Jeremy Coulter on Friday night after Opening Ceremonies. Saturday afternoon we have the Alumni Band lead by Lane Pfeiffer entertaining us at the Assembly; Brian Grundy followed by Jamie Reaume will play for us after the Assembly in the Cafeteria. (AKA BAR) The Stardust Dance will be provided with music from all eras, by Night Beat Entertainment. Raffle draw at the Stardust Dance at 9:30pm. See your Program for addition activities and entertainment.
Remember, Dinner on Saturday starting at 5pm is included with your Regisration; served by the Award Winning Koolini Italian Restaurant.

I have many good memories of both teachers and students. Can anyone remember English teacher Mr. Graydon Bell? Although he had a sudden departure, he was the best English teacher I ever had. Others, like Mr. Fox, Mr. Knapp, Miss Stewart, Mr. Ryan vice-principal, where great too. Transfering to Kennedy from Montreal High School in 1951 in mid-term was not easy, but the good teachers I mentioned above helped me a lot. Unfortunately, due to prior obligations, I will not be able to attend this time. I hope that everyone in attendance will have a great time. At my age of 75 I wonder how many of my former classmates will make an appearance. Good luck to all.

I want to address a misconception that appears in the Athletics Section of the History page. Archie Green's section of that page suggests that calling the athletic teams Clippers was the norm right from the beginning. That is not the case. In one of my early years at Kennedy, George Chapman had a contest to come up with a name for the teams. It was before he left for the Air Force. The prize was something simple, like a free ticket to a football game. I am the one who submitted the name Clippers. I don't remember my rationale, other than it sounded real good after Kennedy. I can remember getting the "prize" from Mr. Chapman.

I was really annoyed when I was figuring out how long its been since we left good ole KCI. All us guys will have aged considerably and some of us not so gracefully, but you women will probably look like you just left high school a couple years ago. Attended the 75th and met only 2 people from that reunion. Hope that others will attend. This will be over 50 years ago. With so many years that have passed I am sure that we have spread across the country and may not be aware of the reunion or that many have departed this earth. These are the twilight years and many years have passed. Certainly would be great to meet classmates from that era.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the reunion. I left Windsor in 1982 and rarely get back but it would be nice to connect with old friends. Most of my Kennedy memories are social - roller skating in the cafeteria and dances in the gym although Jane Boyd was quite possibly the coolest English teacher ever! And who could forgot sweet, old Mrs. Potts in her broom closet office under the stairs ready to hand out toiletries to a girl in need. mjmascarin@gmail.com

While time has passed, it hasn't taken away those many Kennedy "Magic Moments" of Proms, Stardust nights (standing against the wall in grade 9), Young Loves, Jackson Park noon hours, Mario's pizzas and much more... The many "Magic Moments" we had in our future years were due in part to our Kennedy teachers who gave us an excellant academic and civic foundation. Classmates,
I regret that I won't be able to attend our 40th reunion. I hold fond memories of my years at Kennedy and particularly of my days with the music students. And then there were the days I helped you torment teachers... I left Windsor in 1975, first for the University of Illinois and then the University of California, Los Angeles. Although I've lived in a few other places (London, England and Gujarat, India), for most of the past twenty plus years I've called Saratoga Springs, New York home. Here I teach at Skidmore College, a prominent four-year undergraduate liberal-arts institution. I'm still talking about music and recently published a book through Oxford University Press on music I learned to love while at Kennedy: 1960s British rock and pop. Contact me if you get a chance.

We had in 1956 the best CadetBand & Precision Sqad in the city, our Football Team and Swimming Teams were winners, and teachers most who have passed like Mr. Fox, George Arnott, Mr. Ward and the list goes on, were all winners. The pictures, especially in 1956 brought back so many fond memories. The football games, then the stardust dances after, oh, those certainly were the days of our youth! .

Sorry, I won't make the re-union, but my brother John will be there representing the Kent boys. I do stay in touch with a number of Windsor friends and know that they are all looking forward to the reunion. Hopefully I will be able to catch up with most of you at a later time. IF there is ANYONE disappointed, they might try and catch me when I am playing my guitar with Dave Bennett's "Benny Goodman Tribute". Locally we'll play with The Detroit Symphony at Meadowbrook this July, and we do Canadian shows with The Toronto Symphony and Vancouver Symphony later in the year. Our graduating class (1969) marked the 40th anniversary of the opening of KCI and now that this figure has doubled to 80 years it seems only appropriate that ALL of my fellow alumni join me in attending this auspicious occasion to celebrate those halcyon years that were the KCI experience. How very fortunate we are to call ourselves Kennedy graduates! So to my dear friend Alan Warsh I will be there!

Just decided I really could not miss this one.I worked on the 50th & 60th Committees and was Co-Chair of the 70th with my good friend Carol Kyllonen-Malewicz. I love coming to the reunions with my father, Harvey Strosberg who attended Kennedy during the 1960s. We always look at his football, basketball and track and field photos in the hallways. My great uncle Maurice Strosberg also appears in the hallway as a WWII veteran. We came to several reunions past with my grandfather, Philip Strosberg (who passed away in 2003), who was among the first students at Kennedy. Unfortunately, this year, my father and I will both be out of town. We are both going to be very sad to miss it. My connection to Kennedy also symbolizes my own family's roots in this community. I hope everyone has a great time.

Just discovered this fantastic, incredible site....(thank you Tom) but have prior obligations. Will sure try for the next one! Have seen many familiar "old" names after almost 50 years...doesn't seem possible! The Comittee has done a fabulous job arranging all aspects for the whole reunion...80th..WOW...and I hope all attending have a GREAT time with many wonderful memories. I had a great time looking at the old Kencoll photos. I spotted myself in 3 of them. I'm proud to say that I belonged to the FIRST girl cadets as shown in 1961. Not only did my brothers and sisters attend Kennedy, but 2 of my children and nieces/nephew attended as well. Can't believe how fast time has gone by!

I just found out about the KCI 80th yesterday while I was recovering at home from last Tuesday?s skin cancer surgery. Right now I look a lot like WC Fields with the big bandage on my nose which also displaces my glasses so life will be interesting - blurry - until I get my stitches out next week.
